Translation Termination
Translation termination is a process in which the ribosome, which has been translating genetic information from mRNA into a protein, reaches a special sequence known as a stop codon. When the ribosome reaches a stop codon it signals to the cell that the protein is complete and the translation of the mRNA into protein is complete. Translation termination is an essential step in the process of forming proteins necessary for the function of a cell. In addition, its accuracy is crucial for the proper functioning of the proteins that are produced. Poorly terminated proteins can lead to diseases and other types of cellular dysfunction. Its importance, therefore, is paramount in maintaining healthy cells.
