Neonatology

Neonatology is a medical specialty concerned with the care of newborn infants, especially those who are sick or require specialized care due to premature birth or complications shortly after birth. Neonatologists are doctors who specialize in the care of newborns, from before birth through the first month of life. Their unique expertise includes diagnosing, treating, and managing a variety of congenital and neonatal conditions, including prematurity, apnea of prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, juvenile diabetes, birth defects, jaundice, sepsis, and others. By providing specialized care, neonatologists can help to ensure newborns are as healthy as possible, improving outcomes and ultimately reducing long-term health risks in babies.
