Hematology

Hematology is the medical science that studies and deals with diseases of the blood, or diseases that affect the production of blood and its components (such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and hemoglobin). The field of hematology is important for diagnosing and treating a wide range of illnesses, including those related to a person’s blood count, clotting, and immunity. Diagnosing and managing blood-related conditions are crucial for preventing other more serious illnesses. Hematologists also evaluate blood tests, order specific tests to diagnose blood disorders, review blood components, and treat diseases such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukemias. They also provide advice on managing stress and lifestyle issues that can influence the health of the blood.
