Thoracotomy
Thoracotomy is a surgical procedure in which an incision is made in the chest wall in order to gain access to the lungs, heart, or other parts of the chest cavity. It is a major surgical procedure and is usually performed in cases of trauma, chest infections, removal of a lung lobe, or in order to assess the heart. Thoracotomy is an established and safe surgical procedure with a high success rate, which has been used for decades and is a well-accepted treatment option for many chest-related conditions.
