Thoracoabdominal Aortic
Aneurysm Repair Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair is a surgical procedure used to repair an aneurysm, a bulge in a blood vessel, typically located in the thoracic or abdominal aorta. The procedure is used to prevent potential rupture of the aorta which can be life-threatening. During the procedure the aneurysm is accessed through a thoracotomy and/or laparotomy; synthetic graft or fabric is used to replace or reinforce the weakened part of the aorta. Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair is a complex and high risk procedure, and is undertaken when other treatments such as medication and supervised monitoring are not an option. The goal of the surgery is to improve the patient’s quality of life, longevity, and overall well-being.
