Interstitial Lung Disease
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a group of diseases that affects the lungs, causing inflammation and scarring of the organs’ interstitium structures. As a result of this damage, the air sacs in the lungs become stiff, making it difficult to breath. ILD can be caused by exposure to certain environmental agents, like asbestos, or by certain health conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or sarcoidosis. Treatment options depend on the type and severity of the disease, and may include corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, or physical therapy. Ultimately, ILD can lead to respiratory failure and death. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of Interstitial Lung Disease is essential for improving patient outcomes.
