Esophagus
The esophagus is a muscular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach and transports food and liquids. Its main function is to push food and liquids through the digestive system. The esophagus plays an important part in digestion and is essential for proper functioning of the body. In addition, the esophagus helps to ensure that the food is safely passed from the mouth to the stomach for digestion. Esophageal disorders such as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), hiatal hernia and esophageal cancer can cause a range of symptoms, including chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and weight loss. Early diagnosis and treatment of esophageal disorders can be beneficial in reducing the risk of more serious conditions, and improving overall health.
