Laminectomy
Laminectomy is a surgical procedure to remove portions of the vertebral lamina (the back plate of the vertebrae) to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. It is commonly used to treat spinal stenosis, a condition caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal that often leads to pain in the legs, back, or neck. By relieving pressure on the nerves, it can reduce pain and improve mobility in the affected areas. It also may be used to treat herniated disc, tumor, scoliosis, and other conditions that affect the spinal cord or nerves. While laminectomy is generally safe, it does have risks including infection, nerve damage, and other complications.
