Colon Cancer Surgery
Colon cancer surgery is a medical procedure used to remove cancer from the colon. It is a major operation, typically requiring a hospital stay of several days. In some cases, the physician may recommend removing the entire colon and rectum (total colectomy) and attaching the remaining intestine to a colostomy. Other cases may involve removing a portion of the colon along with some of the lymph nodes (partial colectomy). The type of surgery performed depends on the stage and size of the tumor, and the overall health of the patient. Colon cancer surgery is a significant treatment for this type of cancer, and can improve outcomes in patients with early stages of the disease.
