Steroid Hormone Metabolism Disorders
Steroid hormone metabolism disorders are conditions in which the body’s hormones that are produced in the adrenal gland are not able to function properly. These hormones, also called corticosteroids, act on the body in a number of ways. Imbalance in the production or metabolism of these hormones can lead to a wide range of medical problems such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes, infertility, osteoporosis, and psychological disturbances. Treatment generally focuses on restoring the balance of hormones in the body, which can involve medications, lifestyle changes, and replacement therapy. These disorders can have a major impact on physical, emotional, and social wellbeing and therefore it is important to diagnose them early and start appropriate treatment quickly.
