Steroid Hormone-dependent Diseases
Steroid hormone-dependent diseases are diseases that rely on the presence of steroid hormones to manifest symptoms. These hormones include progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and glucocorticoids. These hormones have a wide range of uses and are involved in many physiological processes such as maintaining reproductive function, bone and muscle growth, controlling stress levels and metabolism, and regulating blood sugar levels. When any of these hormones become imbalanced due to a malfunction in the endocrine system, certain diseases can arise, such as polycystic ovary syndrome and Type 2 diabetes. Treatment for steroid hormone-dependent diseases ranges from lifestyle modifications to the use of steroid hormones as replacement therapy. Therefore, it is important to understand how steroid hormones play a role in causing and treating these diseases in order to maintain overall health and wellbeing.
