Pheromones
Pheromones are chemicals secreted by animals, such as humans, to modulate the behavior, physiology and communication of other members of their own species. They are species-specific and have the ability to act as a social and sexual signaling mechanism, allowing for the detection of potential mates or enemies, without the need for sight or sound. Pheromones are known to play a role in many other behaviors such as aggression, alarm signals, mother-infant recognition and disease avoidance. In addition, they are being used in the field of pest control, being synthesized in order to disrupt the mating behaviors of certain insects.
