Nuclear Steroid Receptors
Nuclear steroid receptors are a type of proteins found in the nucleus of cells. They are involved in regulating gene expression by binding to hormone-response elements (HREs) in the DNA molecule. Steroid hormones, including sex hormones such as estrogen and androgen, are able to bind to nuclear steroid receptors and interact with them to activate or repress target gene expression. This process is essential for maintaining the physiological balance of the body and is also involved in many different human diseases and disorders, including cancer. Understanding the mechanism of nuclear steroid receptor action has enabled researchers to develop better treatments for a wide range of diseases.
