Mineralocorticoid

Receptor The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) is a protein found in several tissues of the body, including the kidney, heart, and blood vessels. It is important for maintaining salt, water, and electrolyte balance in the body, as well as in regulating blood pressure. When activated, the MR binds to a hormone called aldosterone, which triggers a series of physiological processes to help maintain blood pressure and electrolyte balance. Dysregulation of the MR pathway has been associated with several diseases, including hypertension, congestive heart failure, and diabetic nephropathy. The MR is a target for research and therapeutic drugs to treat these conditions.
