Anabolic Steroids
Anabolic steroids are synthetic hormones that act like androgens, which are the male hormones. They increase muscle mass, strength, and endurance in athletes who use them. Anabolic steroids are used mainly to improve performance in sports where endurance and strength are important. They are also used to help people suffering from muscle-wasting diseases like AIDS and cancer and to help people aged 50 and over recover from injuries and diseases faster. Although anabolic steroids are widely used, their use is controversial due to their potential for side effects such as liver damage, high blood pressure, and depression.
