Sexual Harmones
Sexual hormones are chemical messengers produced by the body that play a key role in controlling the development and maintenance of male and female reproductive systems. They are important for the regulation of sexual behaviors, reproduction, and secondary sex characteristics. Sexual hormones are primarily released by the gonads, meaning the testicles in males and the ovaries in females, and by the adrenal glands. In most cases, sexual hormones react differently between males and females. For example, testosterone is the primary male sexual hormone while estrogen is the primary female sexual hormone. Sexual hormones are also essential in the control of metabolism and appetite, enabling us to regulate our own body weight.
