Sex Chromosome Disorders
Sex chromosome disorders are genetic conditions caused by an abnormality involving a person’s sex chromosomes. These disorders affect a person’s physical and mental development, and may result in infertility, physical abnormalities, and cognitive impairment. The most common sex chromosome disorder is Turner syndrome, affecting one in every 2,500 females. Other sex chromosome disorders include Klinefelter syndrome, which affects one in every 500 to 1,000 males, and Triple X syndrome, which affects one in every 1,000 females. People with these conditions may have difficulty with everyday tasks, and may need extra support and care. Early diagnosis and treatment can help to improve the quality of life of those affected.
