Scabies

Scabies is an infestation of the skin caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It is highly contagious and can be spread through close contact with an infected person or through sharing of clothes and bedding. Symptoms of scabies include intense itching, particularly at night, as well as a rash of small, reddish-brown bumps, bumps on the palms or soles of the feet, and skin blisters. If left untreated, scabies can cause severe discomfort, secondary skin infections, and scarring. Treatment involves topical medications, such as creams or lotions that kill the mites and their eggs. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are the keys to successful treatment of scabies.
