Clostridium Perfringens

Clostridium perfringens is a Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium found in soil, dust, and decaying organic matter. It is a food-borne pathogen of significance to public health, and is the cause of food poisoning related to the consumption of contaminated food. Clostridium perfringens is also associated with certain animal diseases, including enterotoxemia of sheep, goats and pigs. The bacterium produces several toxins, which are the main cause of clostridial diseases in animals and humans. Due to its ability to produce toxins and its wide distribution in nature, the identification and control of Clostridium perfringens is of great importance for public health and food safety.
