Antipsychotics
Antipsychotics, also known as neuroleptics, are a type of medication prescribed to treat psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. These medications help to reduce the symptoms of these illnesses, including delusions, hallucinations, disorganised thinking, and certain other behaviour problems. Antipsychotics work by affecting the neurotransmitters in the brain, blocking or reducing their action and helping to restore a healthier balance. Common side effects of these drugs include weight gain, sleepiness, and restlessness. When used correctly, antipsychotics can be an effective treatment for many mental health conditions and can improve the quality of life for those who take them.
