Prostate-specific Antigen
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) is a protein produced exclusively by the prostate gland in males. It is used as a biomarker to detect prostate cancer, as it is found in abnormally high levels in the blood of affected individuals. PSA testing can be done from a simple blood test, and is considered a valuable tool for early detection of prostate cancer, as well as for monitor the effectiveness of treatment. PSA levels can also be used to help assess the risk of prostate disease in men, and help determine the need for further tests such as biopsies. As such, PSA testing is an important element of regular health screening for men, and can help to detect cancer before it progresses and becomes more difficult to treat.
