Antiandrogens
Antiandrogens are medications or drugs used to block the effects of androgens, male hormones that are responsible for male sex characteristics. The most common use of antiandrogens is in the treatment of prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men, and other conditions related to excessive androgen production, such as hirsutism, acne, and androgenic alopecia. Antiandrogens act by inhibiting the receptors of androgens, thus blocking their effects on cells. They can also reduce the production of androgens in the body. Antiandrogens can also be used in hormone replacement therapy and are beneficial in the treatment of gender dysphoria in transgender individuals.
