Androgen Deprivation Therapy
Androgen deprivation therapy is a treatment used to lower androgen levels in people with prostate cancer. Androgen is a hormone that drives the growth of prostate cancer cells. Lowering androgen levels can slow the growth of prostate cancer cells and reduce the size of tumors. The therapy can also reduce symptoms, such as problems with urination, and improve the quality of life for patients living with prostate cancer. There are two types of androgen deprivation therapies: medical and surgical. Medical therapy uses medication to reduce androgen levels and surgical therapy removes the source of androgen from the body. Both therapies can be used together for the best possible results.
