Abiraterone Acetate
Abiraterone acetate is a synthetic medication used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. It works by blocking the production of the male hormone testosterone, which stimulates the growth of tumor cells. Abiraterone acetate can slow down the progression of prostate cancer and extend the lifespan of patients with advanced disease. By inhibiting the production of testosterone, abiraterone acetate can reduce the size of tumors, and in some cases, even shrink them. Additionally, it may lessen symptoms associated with advanced prostate cancer such as bone pain, difficulty with urination, and weakness. Abiraterone acetate is sometimes used in combination with other medications or chemotherapy to enhance its effects.
