Individualized Medicine
Individualized medicine, also known as precision medicine, is an emerging approach to healthcare that focuses on providing treatment tailored to an individual patient's unique characteristics. This approach maximizes the effectiveness of treatments by using a person's specific genetic, environmental, and lifestyle data to develop a personalized plan of care. Using this approach, clinicians can recommend preventative care and individually-targeted treatments to reduce the risk of developing certain illnesses or conditions, as well as helping people achieve better health outcomes. As an example, individualized medicine can be used to identify and target particular mutations in a person's DNA that may lead to certain illnesses, allowing physicians to develop personalized treatments. This approach also has the potential to reduce unnecessary healthcare costs and improve overall patient outcomes.
