Psychogenic Pain
Psychogenic pain is an often chronic pain disorder that is triggered by psychological or emotional factors and can be difficult to diagnose scientifically. Its sources can be physical, psychological, or environmental and the duration and intensity of psychogenic pain can vary over time. It often has an effect on the quality of life and can be incapacitating. People suffering from this disorder often seek medical help, but the key to treatment is recognizing the psychological and behavioral components of psychogenic pain and developing an effective self-care strategy. Effective treatments include cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and antidepressant medications. Psychogenic pain is an important medical condition which, if not properly managed, can have devastating consequences for people's physical and mental health.
