Mastitis
Mastitis is an infection of the breast tissue, usually caused by bacteria that enters through a crack in the skin. This condition is the most common infection of the breast and affects up to a quarter of all lactating women. Symptoms include inflammation, redness, pain, tenderness, and swelling and can be especially uncomfortable when breastfeeding. Treatment of mastitis typically involves antibiotics and pain relievers, along with rest and warm compresses. Early diagnosis and treatment of mastitis is important as it can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
