Hysterosalpingography

Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a radiologic procedure used to examine the uterus and fallopian tubes. An x-ray contrast medium is injected through the cervix into the uterus and fallopian tubes. The dye used in the contrast medium helps to highlight any abnormalities such as blockages in the fallopian tubes, which can indicate infertility if one or both of the tubes are blocked. It is also useful in diagnosing problems of the uterus such as fibroids, polyps, tumors, and scar tissue. HSG is a safe and low-risk procedure that is often used as an initial fertility investigation for couples who are having difficulty conceiving.
