Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of diseases and health-related conditions in populations. It also focuses on the investigation of risk factors which may contribute to the occurrence of certain diseases or health-related events, and on the prevention of health problems through research and policy action. Epidemiologists are important contributors to public health initiatives, as they can provide evidence-based insight into the causes and risks of diseases and other health-related conditions. This helps to inform the design of effective public health interventions, targeted at reducing disease and improving the health of populations.
