Depression & Pain
Depression and pain are highly interrelated, and are both major public health issues. Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent sadness, feelings of worthlessness, and loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. Pain is a physical sensation that can range from mild to severe and can be acute (temporary) or chronic (long-term). Depression and pain can be closely linked - depression can increase the intensity of pain and vice versa. Treating both conditions at the same time is important in order to achieve the best outcomes for those affected. Treatment options often include medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modifications. It is important for healthcare providers to recognize the interaction of depression and pain in order to provide the most effective treatments for their patients.
