Complex Regional Pain Syndromes
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic, debilitating condition which causes intense, disproportionate pain and swelling in a limb. It mostly affects people who have experienced an injury to their limb, such as a fracture, sprain or burn. CRPS can cause long-term disability, greatly impacting the quality of life of those affected by it. Treatment of CRPS is challenging and requires a multi-disciplinary approach. Common therapies include physical therapy, occupational therapy, medications, and nerve blocks. In some cases, a combination of interventions is necessary to adequately manage the symptoms. It is important to seek a timely diagnosis and early intervention as this can reduce the severity and duration of the condition.
