Cardiovascular Medicine

Cardiovascular medicine is a specialty of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases, disorders and conditions of the cardiovascular system. It includes the heart, arteries, veins and other blood vessels and the physiological processes associated with them. Cardiovascular medicine plays an important role in maintaining health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death globally. It offers treatments and interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk factors, improve blood circulation and cardiovascular health and treat conditions that can lead to cardiovascular problems. Examples of cardiovascular medicine treatments include lifestyle modification, cardiac surgery, angioplasty and stent placement, drugs, devices and transplantation. Cardiovascular medicine also focuses on prevention and early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. This helps to reduce the burden of these diseases on individuals and health systems.
