This subspecialty plays an important role in optimizing the safety and comfort of both the mother and baby during childbirth. It helped advance obstetric care and decrease the need for major surgery due to difficult labor. Pain management services offered in obstetric anesthesiology include neuraxial and systemic analgesia, regional anesthesia and intraoperative opioids.
