Noise Exposure
Noise exposure is the involuntary and prolonged exposure to any noise that can cause a negative physical, psychological, social, and environmental impact. It is most commonly measured as the sound pressure level (in decibels) and duration of exposure. Exposure to prolonged noise can have several detrimental health effects, such as hearing loss, stress, and cognitive impairments, and has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Noise exposure is of public health and environmental concern, and has the potential to impact the quality of life of individuals and communities. Noise can be managed through policy and environmental regulations, noise control engineering, and personal protective equipment. Effective noise management is needed to reduce its adverse health effects and protect communities worldwide.
