Nerve Growth Factor
Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) is a small, protein-based molecule that regulates the growth and maintenance of neurons, cells that make up the nervous system. NGF binds to specific receptors on the cells’ surface and helps them survive, grow, and repair themselves when damaged. NGF is vital for the development and maintenance of the peripheral nervous system, and disturbances in NGF have been linked to various neurological diseases. In addition, NGF has been used in a number of therapeutic applications, including for nerve and brain injury, as well as for pain relief.
