Ureaplasma Urealyticum Infections
Ureaplasma urealyticum is a type of bacteria that can cause infections in humans, typically of the reproductive and urinary tract. It is a common cause of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) in men and of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and preterm labor in women. Symptoms of an infection may include an increased level of ureaplasma in the genital area, pain or burning with urination, and pain during sex. Treatment of an infection typically involves antibiotics. It is important that both partners are treated as reinfection is possible. Ureaplasma urealyticum infections can have serious consequences, so early diagnosis and treatment of these infections is critical.
