Prematurity

Prematurity refers to a baby that is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. It is a major cause of infant mortality and morbidity, with medical and developmental complications associated with the condition. Prematurity is associated with numerous medical conditions, including neurological and respiratory issues, compromised immune system, and long-term cognitive and developmental delays. The use of antenatal care to better identify pregnancies at risk of prematurity, and the advancements in neonatal intensive care have significantly improved outcomes for babies born preterm in recent years. Prematurity is a complex condition, and research on its causes, diagnosis, and treatments is ongoing.
