Neonatal Follow-up
Neonatal follow-up is a medical practice that ensures newborns who were born with any health complications, underweight or low apgar scores are monitored and managed both in the hospital and after discharge from the hospital. It is critically important to ensure a newborn is healthy and has good developmental outcomes. Neonatal follow-up is conducted by a team of specialists and primary care clinicians who use a variety of tests, such as hearing tests, ophthalmic exam, developmental assessments, and metabolic tests, to assess the newborn's physical and neurological health. The team also provides counseling and support services to the parents and family to ensure the newborn and their family are healthy and have resources available to them. Proper neonatal follow-up can improve the long-term health outcomes of newborns and help to ensure that they develop into a healthy adult.
