Neonatal Conjunctivitis

Neonatal conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the mucous membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white of the eye. It is often caused by bacterial, viral, or chemical irritation and is a common eye problem in newborns or infants. It is a highly contagious eye infection that can cause serious complications, including blindness, if left untreated. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and special eye drops or ointments to reduce inflammation and help the eye heal. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to prevent long-term damage.
