Hyperparathyroidism

Hyperparathyroidism is an endocrine disorder caused by an overactive parathyroid gland. It occurs when the gland produces excessive amounts of parathyroid hormone. This can lead to high levels of calcium in the blood and lead to symptoms such as kidney stones, fatigue, abdominal pain, and joint and bone pain. Hyperparathyroidism is a serious condition and can, if left untreated, lead to life-threatening complications, such as kidney failure. Treatment typically involves surgically removing the overactive parathyroid gland. In addition, medications and lifestyle modifications can help to reduce the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism and prevent potential complications.
