Scleroderma, Systemic
Scleroderma, systemic (also known as systemic sclerosis) is an autoimmune condition that involves the hardening, tightening and thickening of the skin and connective tissues throughout the body. It can occur in multiple organs, including the lungs, heart, and digestive tract. Symptoms can include fatigue, poor circulation, joint pain, and difficulty swallowing. Scleroderma is a chronic condition but can be managed through lifestyle changes, physical therapy, medications, and other treatments. Early detection and diagnosis are important in treating the condition and can prevent serious organ damage. If left unchecked, scleroderma can cause long-term health complications and even death.
