Obesity and Atherosclerosis
Obesity is a leading cause of many life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a form of cardiovascular disease that develops when fatty deposits called plaques build up on the inside walls of arteries, making them narrower and reducing blood flow to the heart. It is the most common type of heart disease, and it can lead to serious health problems, such as heart attack and stroke. Obesity increases the risk of developing atherosclerosis due to the elevated levels of cholesterol and triglycerides found in the blood of obese individuals. Weight management and healthy lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise and eating a nutritious diet, can reduce the risk for atherosclerosis, as well as other obesity-related complications. Additionally, these changes can improve overall quality of life and reduce the burden of chronic diseases.
