Myelin Repair
Myelin repair is the process by which myelin, a fatty substance which coats the nerves and ensures that signals are rapidly transmitted, is regenerated. Myelin is essential for the functioning of the nervous system and its repair is of critical importance for neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Research is currently being conducted to develop treatments that can repair myelin and help to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from neurological diseases. Myelin repair can also provide insight into the development of treatments for a range of other diseases that impact nerve health, such as stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.
