Multiple Sclerosismedic Ations
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive neurological disorder which affects the nerve-insulating myelin sheath of the brain and spine. Symptoms of MS vary greatly and include weakness, vision loss, and impaired coordination and balance. MS medications can help reduce the frequency and intensity of MS relapses and slow the progression of the disease, ultimately improving quality of life. Common MS medications include disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) and symptom-managing medications. DMTs are used to slow disease progression and reduce the frequency of MS relapses while symptom-managing medications, such as analgesics and antispasmodics, are used to reduce or eliminate symptoms. Treatment decisions should always be made in consultation with a healthcare provider.
