Epidemiology and Genetics

Epidemiology and genetics are the study of diseases and disorders to understand how they are distributed in a population, and to identify the factors that influence their occurrence. Genetics is the study of how genes influence the development of a trait or a disease, while epidemiology looks at how the environment and lifestyle affect the prevalence of a disease. Together, they form an important part of public health research, helping to identify risk factors and inform health interventions. For example, epidemiology and genetics research has helped to understand how lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors can contribute to the development of diseases such as cancer and diabetes. The research also provides insights into issues such as the health effects of certain drugs and the optimization of therapeutic treatments.
