Endothelial Dysfunction Atherosclerosis

Endothelial dysfunction is an early stage of atherosclerosis which occurs when the inner lining of blood vessels is damaged. This damage can lead to the buildup of plaque in arteries and limit blood flow, a condition called atherosclerosis. As the plaque builds up, it can block the blood vessels, leading to a build-up of pressure and potentially causing a stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure. Early detection and treatment of endothelial dysfunction can prevent these serious health complications. Treatment includes lifestyle changes such as exercising more, quitting smoking, and eating a healthy diet. Medications, such as ACE inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor blockers, can also help improve endothelial function and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
