Tinea Versicolor

Tinea versicolor is a common skin condition caused by a type of yeast that normally lives on the skin. It results in the appearance of discoloured patches of skin, usually on the chest and back. The patches can be either lighter or darker than the surrounding skin and can vary in size. There is no cure for tinea versicolor, but it is generally easy to treat with antifungal creams and shampoos. Treating tinea versicolor is important to reduce discomfort and prevent it from spreading. In some cases, the discoloured patches can last for months and can cause distress, so it is important to seek advice from a doctor if such symptoms occur.
