Physiatrists
Physiatrists are specialized physicians who treat a variety of non-surgical conditions and injuries to improve function and quality of life. They are also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors. Physiatrists use a variety of diagnostic tools and treatments to evaluate and diagnose musculoskeletal and neurologic problems and develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Treatment plans may include medication, physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, speech and language therapy, exercise, and other interventions. By restoring physical and functional abilities, physiatrists help to improve mobility and reduce pain, enabling their patients to return to their tasks, hobbies and daily activities. Physiatrists also advise on prevention of further injuries and disability.
