Medical Tourism and Global Health
Medical tourism and global health is the practice of travelling abroad to receive medical treatment. Patients often travel to lower-cost destinations that can offer the same level of healthcare, but at a much lower cost than hospitals in their home country. Health tourism is becoming increasingly popular as people seek to save money on medical procedures and access treatments that may not be available in their home country. Patients also often seek out medical treatments with shorter waiting times and fewer restrictions on healthcare criteria. Global health tourism also serves to improve access to care for those living in low- and middle-income countries, where access to healthcare may otherwise be limited. Medical tourism can benefit individuals and countries both economically and medically, creating greater access to healthcare for all.
