Health Disparities and Social Determinants of Health
Health disparities refer to differences in access to healthcare and health outcomes among different population groups. Social determinants of health are the health conditions and factors that impact people’s overall health and welfare including economic and social conditions, education and literacy, social networks and social cohesion. These disparities and determinants are important to improving the health of individuals and entire communities. Addressing health disparities and social determinants of health through policy and interventions can help to reduce health inequities and improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Additionally, understanding these disparities can lead to greater public health awareness and the development of effective public health policies.
